“But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)
Moses was covered with a veil whenever he met with God. What projected from Moses’ countenance after his God encounters was shielded from others who looked upon him. The glory was too much for people to absorb.
In the New Testament the veil is removed. All has changed. God no longer resides with His people in a place, but in them. One of the most powerful messages of the new covenant is that God has sent His Spirit and that the Holy Spirit lives inside of each true follower of Jesus Christ
The Spirit has brought a new freedom in our relationship to God. With unveiled face, through the Spirit, we can behold Him in a new and expanded way. We can talk with Him. We can know His will. We can read and be enlighten about His word. We can behold His glory.
All of this is ours because we have been changed through the new birth that we have received from and in Jesus Christ. We are all being transformed into the image of Jesus, each in a unique way according to the will of God. Every year, we look more like Jesus, more like the righteousness of God.
We cooperate, but we don’t create any of this. It is the Spirit of God, sent from the Father, at the request of the Son who does this work in us. God produces no counterfeits!
