Keys To Maturing In Your Faith

SECOND KEY

00:00 / 44:42

”But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” Galatians 5:16

Being free, we have to begin to order every day according to the Spirit of God, who is now in us. We do this two ways.

One, we saturate our minds with the Word of God. We cannot spend too much time in God’s word. Jesus rebuked Satan with this same affirmation,”But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4. And again,”But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Luke 11:28

The writer of Hebrews adds, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Two, we see the Spirit’s daily pathway based upon what we know to be true, right, and righteous, from our time in God’s word.

The Spirit never says anything outside of what is revealed in Scripture. Most are actions that find their more generic description in the Bible. These actions are most evident because they are the exact opposites of what the flesh would do.

Here is where the description of the fruit of the Spirit shows itself to be the complete opposite of the fruits of the flesh. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:21-22

This fruit is what the Spirit will call to our attention on a daily basis. Our growth in each aspect demonstrates that we are staying in step with the Spirit.

Aa we feed ourselves with God’s word, the Spirit will remind us of each.
