Person in dark jacket sits on a rock, overlooking a lush green valley with distant mountains, creating a serene, contemplative mood.

Wait for the LORD;

be strong, and let your heart take courage;

wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. Psalm 62:5-8

Waiting is not easy. Perhaps it is one of the most difficult things we are asked to do by our God. There is the waiting for the final victory into eternity that enters our thoughts. There are the daily waitings that we are asked to do in following the leading of the Holy Spirit.

We never wait in hopelessness. For our confidence is placed not in what we see, but in the One who has spoken saving words into our souls. And, thus, we know that:

He knows the meta story. He knows the end of the story of human history. As Peter reminds us, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9. Mercy is moving human history.

He is working in your micro story. God the Spirit is always out in front of us. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

He will never abandon you in your waiting. “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say,

“The Lord is my helper;

I will not fear;

what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6

He will reward you with his presence in the waiting. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

He will complete your waiting with your final inheritance of eternal life. “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:2-3

Be encouraged.
