“You are the salt of the earth,  ….. You are the light of the world…..” Matthew 5:13,14

Chef in black apron sprinkles salt from grinder onto sliced tomatoes on wooden board, surrounded by fresh veggies in kitchen setting.

The cultural influence of the people of Christ involves a salt and light kind of impact on culture. This does not mean that righteousness is forced upon culture. But, the expected impact of the salt and light life choices of Christian’s ought to give the culture and its structures “pause” to consider.

When more and more worldly historical and philosophical ideas jettison Biblical ideas of righteousness as defined by God, the “pause” moments decrease, and the restraints to evil diminish.

When the people of Christ do not allow God the Spirit to build lives of salt and light in and through them, the “pause” moments dangerously decrease. And….evil around us will increase.

“…. but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”….. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” 5:13-16

The Christian life is meant to be invested, as an act of worship, into the kingdom of God. But in order to effectively invest it we must have something worth investing. We must learn to live the sacrament of life under His sovereignty over our daily life!
