10 Fatal Errors In The Church

I am not much of a writer. If it were not for an exceptional editor, my writings would be difficult to decipher… I think. I view myself as more of a recorder of thoughts and reflections, I hope are derived faithfully from Scripture. Indeed, if it were not for scripture and my attempts to faithfully represent it, I would have nothing to say.

As a result, much of my musings are, I am sure, regarded by many, as straightforward, and, intentionally lacking in the story lines that so many appear to prefer. Unabashedly, my writings are full of warnings and admonitions. They are much more “corrective” by nature. I recognize and embrace this.

Biblical truth is clear, concise and unyielding. It is meant to be declared as such. Because those of us who believe and declare it are responsible to declare it as it is, we run the risk of this same unyielding perception. There is a big difference between us and God however. He is the author, we are the servants. We are unyielding in declaring it, but compassionate in applying it to people.

As I speak, so I have attempted to write. I embrace the words of Frank Kafka: “If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skulls, then why do we read it? Good God, we also would be happy if we had no books and such books that make us happy we could, if need be, write ourselves. What we must have are those books that come on us like ill fortune, like the death of one we love better than ourselves, like suicide. A book must be an ice axe to break the sea frozen inside us."

10 Fatal Errors in the Church

10 fatal errors in the church - book by dwight paul smith

The primary purpose of the church is not to be relevant to our culture. Rather, it is to make the gospel accessible, through our day-to-day lives, to people who need Christ. God’s design for the church is for every member to live the gospel in whatever places God calls him or her, thus saturating every home, workplace, community, city, and nation with the gospel message through the people of God.

God is on mission in our day. Let’s work with Him by holding fast to His purpose for the church: growing and mobilizing all God’s people into relationship with Him and representation of Him, wherever they live.

New book - 10 Fatal Errors in the Church now available.
