Training
“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8 ESVi)
I note from your messages that you all send out, that many of you demonstrate an amazing commitment to staying healthy. We admire and rejoice that you have learned to discipline your time to build up health.
Grandma and I have attempted to do the same. She is at the gym regularly bending and stretching her joints and muscles. As you know, I walk almost daily.
In years past we were active in other more “demanding” ways. As we get older, the goal is not so much to reverse aging, but to “discipline” our bodies and appetites to help us finish strong and joyful.
I like the verse quoted above. It reminds me that, while she and I continue to discipline our bodies, we never want to miss the greater importance of discipling our time to walk with our Heavenly Father. This joyful discipline brings us confidence to live everyday. Most importantly, it gives us greater confidence that we are “ready” for the life to come!
