No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus

As I sit here in Starbucks, across 65 years, I can still hear my dad singing that song as he carried me along with him from place to place. See the words below and listen to the piano instrumental. He derived great comfort recalling the words and singing them out loud.
He was never a wealthy man. After working as a local pastor in a largely Hispanic neighborhood for twelve years, he switched to a more “menial” job. At his age, not much was left to him but try and support the family. It was also the reason that my mother went to work.
They “spoiled” me, but scarified themselves. He was an educated man, who passed on to me a library of over 3,000 volumes when he died. I am sure that he read many of them. As some of your parents will remember, he always had a stack of books sitting next to his favorite chair in his later years. And, just for himself, he was writing a commentary on the book of Romans!
He was up every morning at about 5 am, on his knees, praying. It was a discipline I had opportunity to capture many times in my life.
I include for you a piano instrumental of “his” song and the lyrics below. Can you imagine your great grandpa singing?

I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus
Since I found in Him a friend so strong and true
I would tell you how He changed my life completely
He did something that no other friend could do
No one ever cared for me like Jesus
There's no other friend so kind as He
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me
Oh how much He cared for me
Ev'ry day He comes to me with new assurance
More and more I understand His words of love
But I'll never know just why He came to save me
Till someday I see His blessed face above
No one ever cared for me like Jesus
There's no other friend so kind as He
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me
Oh how much He cared for me
All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me;
All my heart was full of misery and woe,
Jesus placed His strong arms about me
And He led me in the way I ought to go.
No one ever cared for me like Jesus;
There's no other friend so kind as He.
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me;
O how much He cared for me.
Ev'ry day He comes to me with new assurance;
More and more I understand His word of love.
But I'll never know just why He came to save me,
Till someday I see His blessed face above.
No one ever cared for me like Jesus;
There's no other friend so kind as He.
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me;
O how much He cared for me.
