Follow Jesus
Dear kids and grandkids
We have been praying much for you. In a world with increasing chaos and confusion, and, filled with accusations, we sense the need to ask God regularly on your behalf.
What do we pray for? We pray for your next job, for your next year of school, for joy in your present job, for the decisions you will make about a life partner. There are so many desires we have for you, and so we pray.
Above all of these daily things, we pray most for your eternal salvation as found in the Gospel from God about Jesus.
Even here, there is too much unnecessary noise and speculation. Grandma and I spend time just about every day with our Heavenly Father in His word, the Bible. And, you are often the focus of that time.
Salvation is free, the only thing we bring to it is our sin…..”nevertheless (it, salvation) works in our lives so powerfully that it transforms us, confronts our will, demands our devotion and allegiance, and calls forth our deepest commitment.”
(Excerpt From Jesus's Sermon on the Mount and His Confrontation with the World. D.A. Carson)
These short words explain why we have done what we have done for over 50 years. As we get older, the simplicity of them becomes clearer. Undoubtedly, we have grown in our understanding and, we hope, been more faithful.
Nonetheless, our simple desire has always been to follow Jesus: wherever the place, whatever the task, whatever the cost.
We will continue to pray for each of you, that you too will embrace this simple, joyful, obedient calling: to follow Jesus.
We love you and pray for each of you,
Dwight and Patti
